Drop Conversion Reference
1 XRP equals 1,000,000 drops. 0.1 XRP equals 100,000 drops. 0.01 XRP equals 10,000 drops. 0.001 XRP equals 1,000 drops. 0.0001 XRP equals 100 drops. 0.00001 XRP equals 10 drops, which is the standard transaction fee. 0.000001 XRP equals 1 drop, which is the absolute minimum unit. The 10 XRP account reserve equals 10,000,000 drops.
Why XRPL Uses Drops in Its API
All XRP Ledger API responses and transaction fields use drops as integers rather than decimal XRP amounts. This prevents floating-point rounding errors - critical for a financial system where precision is non-negotiable. When you sign a transaction, the Fee field is set in drops as an integer string such as '12'. When calling server_info, base_fee_xrp returns a decimal, but server_state returns base_fee as integer drops for precision.
Calculating Current Fee in Drops via API
To get the precise current minimum fee programmatically: call the fee method on any XRPL node. The response includes open_ledger_fee showing drops needed for current ledger inclusion, and median_fee based on recent transaction history. Under normal conditions, open_ledger_fee equals 12 drops. During high load, this number increases proportionally with the load_factor parameter of the network.
Multi-Signature Fees in Drops
Multi-signature transactions require higher minimum fees than standard payments. The formula is: minimum_fee_drops equals (1 plus N) multiplied by base_fee_drops, where N equals the number of signatures included in the transaction. A 3-of-5 multisig with 3 signatures requires at minimum (1 plus 3) times 10 equals 40 drops. A 5-of-7 multisig with 5 signatures requires (1 plus 5) times 10 equals 60 drops minimum.
Reserve Requirements in Drops
The base account reserve of 10 XRP equals 10,000,000 drops. Each additional ledger object such as a trust line, offer, escrow, or payment channel costs 2 XRP equals 2,000,000 drops in additional reserve requirement. These values correspond to reserve_base and reserve_increment parameters visible in server_info API responses. Reserve values can only be changed through the XRP Ledger amendment process requiring broad validator consensus.

Very helpful breakdown of how XRP fees are calculated. The drop conversion table was especially useful for my development work.
He pays regular, was the rejoinder. But come, itâs getting dreadful late, you had better.
Then going through some small strange motions with itâwhether indispensable to the magnetizing of the steel, or merely intended to augment the awe of the crew.
